FIRST DAY IN PRAGUE

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

Praha, the City of Spires, the Golden City, The Heart of Europe. This city earned its many nicknames from its fascinating history spanning the reign of several empires. It is distinct due to its black and gold gothic architecture, delicious pilsner beer, former soviet

quirks, and charming cobblestone streets. Prague can sometimes feel like a real life Disney World. Its castle and historical districts were fortunately untouched by the destruction of World War II, making the city have a beautiful blend of medieval landmarks and ultra-modern design. This amazing city has been attracting world travelers since its transition from communism to a free republic in 1989, make it a unique attraction that stands out from most of Western Europe.

OLD TOWN

Old Town Square, in Czech known as Staroměstské náměstí, is the central square of historic Prague. One highlight of Old Town Square is the famous Prague Astronomical Clock on Old Town hall. This medieval clock is the oldest astronomical clock still operating in the world. For a small fee, you can enter the Old Town hall and catch brilliant views of Old Town Square from the observation deck.

No visit to Prague is complete without a stroll down the picturesque Charles Bridge and admiring its surroundings. The construction of this iconic landmark in the very centre of Prague took 45 years and the bridge was opened in 1402.

PRAGUE CASTLE

Prague castle was built in the 9th century and is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic. This expansive castle made up of historical palaces, offices, a church, gardens and fortification buildings, is the largest ancient castle in the world. It dominates the skyline of Prague and is situated majestically on the hillside. Take a walk around the castle complex for free, explore the courtyards and admire the historic buildings or book a tour. Try one of Prague’s most popular street foods, potato chips on a stick! Purchase a fried, spiraled potato on a skewer from a local Czech street vendor.

LENNON WALL

Hidden beneath the streets of Prague, you may discover a tribute to one of the members of the Beatles. Since the 1980s, the Lennon Wall has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti, lyrics from Beatles' songs, and designs relating to local and global causes. This is a popular spot for tourists and artists.

Address: Velkopřevorské náměstí, 100 00 Praha 1, Czechia

PETRIN TOWER

The Petřín funicular railway delivers you right to the top of a hill above Prague, where you can explore this amazing tower. Built as a mini version of Paris's Eiffel Tower, the Petrin Lookout Tower was built in 1891. Ascend up the steps of the tower for one of Prague’s most striking views. They do also offer an elevator ride to the top at an additional cost. Once you are at the top of the tower, you will see 360 degree views of Prague’s beautiful red rooftops and picturesque cityscape.

Address: Petřínské sady 633, 118 00 Praha 1-Malá Strana, Czechia

PIVOVARSKY KLUB

This restaurant offers traditional Czech and European food and beer in a comfortable atmosphere. For lunch, they offer a special goulash with bacon dumplings that is simply out of this world. If you're feeling adventurous, they offer giraffe beer towers full of specialty brews at reasonable prices that can be shared amongst friends. This pub and brewery is a favorite of both locals and expats and was frequented by Anthony Bourdain during his visits to Prague.

Update: Due to the 2020 pandemic, they are temporarily closed. We hope to see them re-open as they are one of our favorite restaurants in the city of Prague.

Address: 17, Křižíkova 272, 186 00 Praha, Czechia

BEER MUSEUM

Prague Beer Museum Pub's claim to fame is their unique selection of Czech microbrews. Most beers offered were from small Czech brewers and Monks at local monasteries. They have a large, informative menu where you can read detailed descriptions of all the different beers on tap. This is a hotspot for lovers of beer and those wishing to learn more about the local culture of the Czech Republic. We split an excellent Czech meat pie here that perfectly complemented our flights of Czech beer samples.

ŽIŽKOV TELEVISION TOWER

This unique building receives a lot of criticism for its appearance, but we found it to be wicked weird in an awesome, futuristic Blade Runner kind of way. Built resembling three giant pillars, this tower stands 700 feet above the charming streets of Prague's hip Zizkov district.

Making its appearance even more unique, ten crawling baby sculptures by famous Czech artist David Cerny can be seen on the tower’s pillars. Take an elevator up to the restaurant at the top for amazing cocktails and views of the city. One of our cocktails came with a fluff ball of cotton candy on the side and tongs to place it inside the drink! At night the tower is illuminated white, red, and blue - the national colors of the Czech Republic.

Address: Mahlerovy sady 1, 130 00 Praha 3-Žižkov, Czechia

ANONYMOUS

For a posh night out, visit the hidden AnonymouS Bar, which can be recognized by its Guy Fawkes mask logo. Discovering its entrance will make you feel as though you are entering a speakeasy. The interior is dark and stylish with plush armchairs that give the ambience of a luxurious study. Their selection of cocktails and skilled bartenders will not disappoint! The New Orleans Fizz was delicious and worth a try.

Address: Michalská 12, Prague 1, Czech Republic

Prague is a destination that will certainly satisfy any travel lover. Its historical cobblestone streets, traditional pubs, unique culture, and free spirit are simply unforgettable. Every time we leave Prague the only thing on our mind is when we can go back.
