24 HOURS IN SAN DIEGO

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

San Diego, the jewel of America. This gorgeous Southern California city lies on the coast of epic cliffs and relaxing beaches. One thing for certain is that people here really know how to enjoy life. You can find beaches, surfing, parasailing, eclectic restaurants, lively bars, and numerous historical sites that make San Diego stand out as one of America's finest cities. 24 hours is not nearly enough time to see all of its greatness, but it most certainly is enough to have a wicked good time. This is a "field trip" that'll satisfy both history lovers and beach bums.

OCEAN BEACH

Ocean Beach is a funky, vintage beach town and hot spot of surfers and beach bums! A great spot for sunbathing around the pier and strolling through the many surf shops, taco stands and unique local boutiques. Ocean Beach has a groovy, SoCal vibe and is a great place to view a West Coast sunset. For food, stop in at Mike’s Taco Club which is only steps away from the Ocean Beach Pier. No visit to Southern California is complete without first eating tacos. This taco shop has quick service and uses the freshest ingredients. Their avocado tasted as if it was just plucked from the tree.

LA JOLLA

La Jolla is the perfect destination for beautiful views of the ocean and its rugged coastline. Home to a variety of posh boutiques, art galleries and elegant restaurants. Head to La Jolla Cove to catch the California seals and sea lions snoozing on rocks or swimming in the waves. They are quite the site and are very friendly to visitors swimming and snorkeling nearby! Some of the best views without disturbing the wildlife are found at the Children’s Pool. Before you leave, you must stop in at ‘The Cave Store’ in La Jolla because it offers an experience like no other! This shop may appear average from its exterior but inside it leads you to an underground sea cave overlooking the Pacific Ocean and La Jolla Cove. Pay just $10 and descend down the steps for this wicked cool view! It is amazing how the sea cave appears to look like a man’s silhouette hence the name 'Jim's Sea Cave'. If you are lucky, you may encounter seals and sea lions basking in the cave, too!

USS MIDWAY MUSEUM

Step aboard the USS Midway, a United States Navy aircraft carrier that is now a historical naval aircraft carrier museum. You will appreciate the size and history of this ship that took part in the 1990s Operation Desert Storm and launched more than 3,000 combat missions. It was the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century. There are more than 30 restored aircrafts for you to explore up close. A short walk from there is the ‘Embracing Peace’ statue, where you will see a U.S Navy sailor embracing and kissing a total stranger on the day World War II ended. This statue was built to replicate the famous photograph in Times Square by Alfred Eisenstaedt.
